This
pleasant-appearing woman, Patricia Dunn, obviously thrilled
that she is able to further erode and destroy the once-great
Hewlett-Packard, was chairman of the board... or, should that be
chairwoman? ...No, not in this case.
Perhaps she
realizes that she is another victim of the women's movement. She was
given more power than she was able to wield, became over-whelmed,
and abused her position.
Her need to
control the trivial derives from her basic insecurity. She was
promoted too fast, after having achieved too little.
But her rise helped fulfill the quota
for females in HP's upper management. The cost to HP was far too
high. The cost to Ms. Dunn was far too high. |

This
pleasant-appearing women, Patricia Dunn, obviously thrilled
that she was able to further erode and destroy the once-great
Hewlett-Packard, was Chairman of the Board. She demonstrated a
fixation over trivial details. She should have been focusing on
important issues. Being hung up on trivia, she should have been
mature, wise, and used good judgment all top executives should
possess. |
|
The trivia
that plagued her could have been cleared away by simply exposing it
and asking each board member about his role. |

Background: A Training Ground
For Fixations & Needs To Control |
|
Hewlett-Packard's
board of directors held an emergency meeting to review the widening
furor. The noise and further divisive behavior at HP is over an
outside investigation that was ordered by its chairman. The spying
was on the board members. |
|
Chairman
Patricia Dunn oversaw an investigation into boardroom leaks by
directors. HP hired private investigators to obtain phone records of
board members and news reporters without their knowledge. HP led by
Dunn sought to identify who was leaking confidential company
information. |
|
In order to
get the phone records, investigators posed as the board members and
reporters themselves. This is a method known as "pretexting". It
involves someone posing as someone else to obtain their personal
records. |
|
Chairman Dunn
has now relinquished her position. |
|
Chairman Dunn
follows in Carly Fiorina's footsteps having demonstrated a failure
of perspective, a lack of wisdom, and a desperate need to control. |
|
Why, and what may be their
objective in using specious methods and insidious tactics? Why
do they fail to understand that only through teamwork can any
organization progress and survive over the long term? |
|
Just when the
new man in charge, CEO Mark Herd, is successfully cleaning up the
damage done by Carly Fiorina to HP's personnel, product lines, and
customer service, this lady caused a new crisis and more damage. |
|
Why do they abuse their power
rather than use it wisely? |
