The Frenchies Took Ten

And The US Took How Long?

In 1789 France erupted in revolution. The civil war tides twisted while varieties of factions ebbed and shifted in blood shed. Multiple demagogues and groups came to power and failed to build and ensure peace. Finally, in 1799, leadership established a foundation which allowed liberty, an economy, and the nation-state to develop.
In ignorance only does the world -- including today's French and sports-minded, frightened Americans -- want to remove the coach and ridicule Iraqis for failing to recover from 33 years of Saddam Hussein's murderous dictatorship. The Iraqi people have been liberated for only 3-3/4 years.
How pathetic are the quivering, under-educated, unthinking people of the world who want to desert Iraq while it is threatened by terrorist neighbors poised to usurp the Iraqi people's progress and resources before they have had a reasonable chance to recover from Saddam's 33-year reign of terror.
The French have forgotten their own leader Robespierre and his Reign of Terror. In 1793-1794, 25,000 Frenchmen were executed by Frenchmen.
The United States struggled with unification for many years. It developed and expanded westward over the first half of the 19th century. Then, starting in 1861, the US fought its own bloody civil war which resulted in the deaths of over 600,000 Americans. Only days after the US Civil War ended in 1865, President Lincoln was assassinated.
So who can justifiably whine that Iraq is slow to democratize and civilize?
